a_gyan
My mother-in-law from India is in the US on a visitor visa with an original I-94 expiration date of 29th April 2020. Due to the deteriorating Covid situation we sought a 3 month extension of stay with USCIS on the 21st of March 2020 via online I-539. As of the date of this posting, the status of our application has not moved past "submitted". As the Covid situation has not sufficiently improved in either the US or India, we seek to extend her stay by another 3 months. Is this doable? And if so, would filing a new I-539 with the new intended date of departure suffice? Thank you! Quote Link to comment
User099
Yes, you can apply for one more extension while the other is pending. Quote Link to comment
Ravi 91502
for what duration can we apply now? for another 6 months or only 3 months?(since the latest filing was for 3 months and 3 more months are remaining ?) Quote Link to comment

I agree with the above, to be in the safer side you could ask for another six months than three months. If situation improves you could make her leave the country earlier else you could save on the filing fees. Quote Link to comment
