Reset H1B clock. Do I have to be out of USA for consecutive 365 days?

I am exhausting 6 years on H1B. In order to reset H1B clock, do I have to be out of USA for  consecutive 365 days? what if I go to India for 3 months, come back on H4 for 2 Months and again go back 9 months? does that count as 1 year out of USA?

According to the rules brief visits on B1/B2 are ok, and don't count towards the 1 year.

The rules don't say anything about entering in another status, so you should expect that to not be allowed if you want the clock to reset.
