I-94 expiring with passport, got new H1B with new employer

Here's my situation:

1. I entered US on January/2011, with an H1B visa valid until 2013, but passport was expiring on October/2011, therefore they gave me I-94 valid only until October/2011 (officer at port of entry told me I need to renew passport and then apply for an extension of stay, or leave and re-enter country).

2. In June/2011 I switched employers, and the new employer sponsored my new H1B which was approved with an I-797 until 2014, which came with a new I-94 (same number as the one that I was given at port of entry).

3. At the same time (June/2011), I renewed my passport until 2016 (in June/2011)

4. DO I STILL NEED TO TAKE ACTION NOT TO BE OUT-OF-STATUS AFTER OCTOBER/2010? OR SINCE I GOT A NEW I-94 WITH I-797 APPROVED UNTIL 2014, DOES THAT MEAN MY DURATION OF STATUS HAS ALREADY BEEN EXTENDED?

Thanks for your help!

please consult a lawyer.

does the I-94 on your new H1 approval is dated until 2014? or only your H1 petition is valid until 2014 and the I-94 attached is still until 10/2011? the new I-94 date on your most recent H1 approval will be your validity of stay.
