Can I travel with my typo (first name) in my i- 797 during process?

I recieved I- 797 which containing typo on my first name,  I called the hot line and requested the typo to be correct.

 

 weeks later I received a letter saying that :  "Thank you for your inquiry. The NAME of the applicant was keyed into our system exactly as it appears on the applicants. We have reviewed your file and found no documentation to support your request to change applicant's name as requested. Please fax a copy of the applicant's birth certificate or passport to support the request."

I did fax my copy of passport back to them and its been 30 days I haven't heard anything back. 

 

I have an emergency that I have to fly to Thailand within a week. 

 

Is it safe to travel with my original i-797?
