Cap Exempt Green Card Processing

Hi, 

I am on H1b cap exempt. I wanted to approach my employer to start the green card process. Before I do that, would like to get some questions answered.

1) Can my employer apply for Perm and there after I-40 (just like the process is for non-exempt h1b) ?

2) If they do and after I get my I-140, can I / if I switch to a non-profit employer, would they need to re-apply for H1b in the non-cap-exempt bracket? Or will it be a normal extension until my priority date becomes current?

The GC process is the same for everybody. There is no special rules for people on cap-exempt H1s.

Also, an extension or transfer is really just a new H1 petition.
