Entry visa for US citizen of Indian origin

Hi,

I'm looking to apply for Entry visa for my kid who is a US citizen. I may not get the OCI processing done before the intended date of travel, hence looking for entry visa. I found from CKGS website that you can apply for 6 months, 1 year and 5 year visa. But there is no mention of duration of individual stay. Under a entry visa with 5-year validity, how long one can stay in India during single visit? If it is limited to 6 months, can I apply for OCI from India within that 6 months? Has anyone here stayed in India with entry visa for more than 6 months? Thanks for sharing your opinions and experiences.
