Raja Velagaleti
Hello, I was with company 'A'(Who holds my H1) but lost my job. Jul-7 is my last employment date. After Jul-7, I don't get any pay stubs from Company A. So I had 60 days grace period to look for another job and apply for H1B. Now, I have question is that, Can I convert my h1b visa to OPT/CPT? If yes, may I know what is the procedure? Thank you, With regards, Raja Velagaleti. Link to comment
satya2k1
No. Even before changing to OPT/CPT you need to change to F1 status with valid I20 from an university or a college. Do you have admission approval letter from any college? Link to comment
Raja Velagaleti
No, I didn't apply for any university. DO I need to take GRE and IELTS or TOEFL exam again to apply for admission? Link to comment
JoeF
OPT/CPT is not a status. They are part of the F1. For OPT, you have to be in valid F1 status, and you have to be enrolled in a university and be in good standing for at least one year. And forget CPT. No real university gives that to somebody who just enrolled. The F1 is not for working, it is for studying. And real universities have application deadlines. It takes months before a decision is made. Link to comment

Some colleges may waive TOEFL and GRE requirements if you have graduated from the USA university before. Link to comment
