Hi,

could anyone please clarify if we can start work as soon as we get the h1 transfer receipt number?

and what happens if the h1 transfer is denied.

Generally, if you are currently in H1B status and a new employer files a H1B change of employer petition, you can begin working for the new employer once the Receipt Notice is received. If the petition is subsequently denied, you must stop working for that employer immediately. In that case, it may be possible to return to the original H1B employer if the I-94 is still valid and the company did not revoke the approved H1B petition. Depending on the reason for the denial and whether your current I-94 is expired, there could be potential unlawful presence issues as well.
