Pay Roll

My H1B got expired on sep 05 2016. H1B extension by same employer was denied on 15 sep 2016. 
My employer filed for another H1B and MTR for denied application on 27th sep 2016 and received receipt on 28th Sep. 
My employer ran payroll till 15th sep 2016 and says he would not run payroll after that as I am not supposed to work post denial. 

My question is Should he continue to run payroll from the date(28 sep 2016) he has received H1B application receipt as it is legal to work on receipt 

Please suggest right thing to do
