I have a friend who is originally from Tamil Nadu, India. He worked in the states for three years, but now works and lives in Dubai. My concern is that I don't really understand the rules of sponsorship on my end of things. Do I need money? If so, how much? Does he need money? If so, how much? My income is low as well. I only make about $20,000 US Dollars per year and his salary in Dubai si comperable to that. I have heard that sponsorship is often rejected if you earn less than $30,000 or $40,000 USD per year. My father has said he would help me sponsor him, and our collective income would be about that much. Is it possible for both my father and I to sponsor a visitor visa for my friend? Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

He needs to apply stating a visit of say 2 weeks to visit this great country and needs an appropriate leave and job letter. You should not be in the picture at all.

There is no sponsorship for visitors. Hence there is nothing that can be rejected based on somebody else's salary.

He needs to show strong ties to his home country so that he will return.

You or your father has nothing to do with visitor visa for your friend. Your friend should support himself and apply for a visitor visa. He should be able to convince VO that he has strong toes to home country and intends to return back.

There is no such thing as sponsorship. Your friend must prove he has reason to leave the US at the end of his visit. If your income is so low, how do you expect to afford to entertain him while he is here?
