Which consulate should my wife goto for the H4 visa interview ?

Hi,

I am currently working in US on H1B and will be getting married soon. I plan to bring my wife to US on H4 visa. She's from Karnataka and I am from Maharashtra. People residing in Karnataka are supposed to go to Chennai for visa interview whereas maharashtra residents can go to Mumbai.

In addition - my current visa has expired and I have to anyways go for a stamping to the mumbai consulate this time and was planning to go together so that both of us can get the visa's stamped at the same time. Can we both apply to the Mumbai consulate as she will be a dependent applicant ?

Hi,

If you are going for a visa renewal, you need not go to Mumbai. You can go to any consulate. If your fiancee's passport has been issued in Bangalore (Karnataka), she needs to go to Chennai. I would suggest you also go to Chennai with her.

Pontevicchio - you said "YES" in that case do i need to put my address as her address in DS160 form ? and while making the appointment select her state of residence as maharashtra ?

Also - Does any one know what is the criteria for considering which consulate one can go to ? While making the appointment one question is - Residence State - is that the state on the passport or the place where one is staying currently ?

Please go to Mumbai for both visas.

This is a year old , but i am facing the same issue. My wife is a resident of Bangalore while I am from Maharashtra. Is it possible for her to select Maharashtra as the state of residence and give the interview at Delhi or does she have to go to Chennai?

But in my opinion you can both go to any consulate
