Need to know the process of H1 to H4 and back to H1?

I currently have H1 expiring in two weeks,my employer is not ready to file an extension,I am looking for other jobs its too late to file for an extension.Is there a way I can change my status to h4 using my wife's h1 petition and continue to stay in US and look for a job,once I get a sponsor what is the process to initiate H1 back
