Can I apply for H4 and EAD while on active L1B

Hello,

My L1B is nearing 5 years tenure this Dec 2019.  My Spouse has approved I140.  As a fall back option, If I apply for H4 and EAD right away while on active L1B then would the USCIS cancel my L1B status.  

My understanding is that we could have both L1B and H4 EAD while residing in US. But however one of them would get cancelled while I exit and re-enter the country.

You can only have one status. If you change to H4 then you are not in L1 status.
