Elapsed H1B period while H1 to H4 COS

Can someone help answer below query.

I have 1 year left on H1B and applied for COS to H4. Am i going to loose H1B period until i get final approval on my case due to long processing times for COS ?

Yes. You will be on H-1 until the H-4 application is approved. It will have a start date on it. Better to travel out of country and come back on H-4 to save your H-1 period.

No you wont loose your 1 year of h1B. The clock stops on the receipt of H4 docs  which is generally your H4 receipt date and you can stop working if you like if not continue working until your h1b is approved.
