H1B Renewal in RFE - H4EAD Extension

I was just notified by my employer that my H1B Renewal got RFE ("specialty occupation"). I already have MS in CS from US and this is my second H1B extension.

My existing H1 and spouse's H4EAD is expiring in Aug 2018.

Can my spouse's H4EAD be extended during this RFE process? Or is it dependent on my H1B extension decision?

If latter, is there a risk of having H4EAD expired before renewal?

No you can't extend H-4. It is dependent on your extension decision.
