Can you travel overseas on opt while your h1b petition gets a rfe

I have a valid F-1 Visa and OPT till August 2019. My H1b petition was selected in the lottery this year and I got a RFE a couple of days back! I’m planning to travel overseas in June this year and planning to respond on my RFE after my return to the US!

What effects will it have on my application if I travel overseas?

It is recommended to H1 aspirants who are coming off OPT to not travel abroad during the status is in transition. Add a fact that it's in RFE gives all the more stronger recommendation to stay put until RFE is responded and approved.

Legally, nothing stops you from leaving US and travel overseas but return is not guaranteed on OPT.

If you travel the COS to H1 will be deemed cancelled though you could get H1 approved on merits. Hence the need for a visa at the appropriate time.
