Does role change affect my GC priority date

I am on H1 with I140 approved. my priority date is Sep 2011. My H1 was filed as Senior Apps Developer. Now I am in process of getting promotion to Development Manager with 5-6 direct reports to me.  So a role change and responsibility change as well.

One of my colleague mentioned that since this is a role change we may have to re-do the entire GC process again and I may lose my priority date. Is that true ?  Can they file an amendment to my current H1b with role change
