NYWarrior
Even I have question about name change. My Wife came here on H4 with her maiden name ( passport and H4 visa has her maiden name) I'm thinking of changing her last name to mine in passport. Does it affect h4 Visa? ( it valid till 2016 - it has her maiden name) Thanks Link to comment

rahul412
Why do you wanna change her last name?? Its a big head ache. Link to comment
pontevecchio
Your first step should you choose to opt for the change is to have her name changed in the Passport for which you will need to look for details on the Embassy site. On the other hand you do not have to change. Link to comment
NYWarrior
Thanks for Quick Response. Why do you wanna change her last name?? Its a big head ache. She came here recently and wanted to apply drivers license/ITN IDs. Thought Change of name would help in future. If i change her last name, Does it create any problem for existing VISA? ( existing VISA will have her old name ). what are the compilations if she travels back to come to USA with ( old VISA on old passport ) and new passport with change in name. Your first step should you choose to opt for the change is to have her name changed in the Passport for which you will need to look for details on the Embassy site. On the other hand you do not have to change. I inquired Embassy office, It takes 4-6 weeks in regular process. Is there any advantage/disadvantage of changing last name? Link to comment
rahul412
Name change will not create any issues, only thing is that its an unnecessary headache. Like Ponte suggested, consulate can help you in this process. All you have to do is fill some paper work and send it to the consulate. You gain nothing by changing her lastname. Link to comment
pontevecchio
There is no legal need to change her last name. The advantage is that you need do nothing . The disadvantage may be parental displeasure. Just kidding. As I said if you must have her name changed and then get a brief phone consult with the firm of Murthy as to any H4 amendment.
