pdaj
I lost my passport and I797 document (H4 -> F1 Change of Status) recently. And I have to travel to India next week. I have filed for Tatkal passort at Indian Consulate and am waiting to receive it. I have following queries: 1. Since my passport and I 797 are both lost, I do not have original I94 with me. But I do have photo copy of the I797 document (which has the latest I94) as well as the I-94 on lost passport. Is that fine or will I have any trouble while travelling to India? 2. I have already scheduled Visa appointment at US consulate with information from my old lost passport. How should I proceed here? Also, since I have also lost my I797, would it be any problem while appearing for Visa interview and/or while coming back from India to US? I heard there are two options regarding I797.File for duplicate using I824 form, but that is a time consuming process. The other is to get it stamped on my passport from a local USCIS office. Can someone please share some information/experiences around both these options? Thanks. pdaj Link to comment
jairichi
1. You are fine. 2. Show the police report to US consulate officials. Yes, you need original I797 at US consulate and at POE. Postpone your travel plan and get the duplicate. Link to comment
