I have a bachelors in Mech Engg.

I got the offer letter from an IT company, 2 years after completing my bachelors. In these 2 years I have enrolled in software training courses. Now its 3 1/2 years from graduation.

Am I eligible to file H1B, considering I am from non-IT background and need to have 3yrs IT experience?

Can my training certificates, for 2yrs training (from NIIT, and local training institutions), be used instead for the 2years gap ?

Please help..

If we go with information that you provided, It seems you only have 1.5yr experience.

And NIIT is at best considered as specialised training, and cannot be part of experience.

But basic question, why you are worried about H1b? shouldnt your employer be applying it ?

Yes, my employer has to apply it. and true, I have 1.5 yrs exp.

couple of my batchmates have a btech csc, and my employer has nominated them for h1b, when I inquired about the eligibility he told I was from non IT background.  few folks opined that we can use the training for applying h1b, and few others have a diff opinion.

so, I turned to this forum to check if I get any alternative suggestions..
