H4 EAD on H4 extension pending decision-Trivial issue - Urgent help

My spouse recently(Sept2016) got i140 approved and we want to apply for H4 EAD, but we also applied for H1B & H4 Extension recently in August 2016 (which is still decision pending) as our current visa's are getting expired in Dec 2016. 

Now our problem/questions is while applying for H4 EAD it asks for a H4 receipt #, so should i enter the approved H4 receipt #(which is expiring Dec2016) or it can be a H4 receipt# of the H4 extension which is still under decision pending.

Basically can I apply for H4 EAD with the H4 extension receipt# whose decision is still pending?
