Should i apply for H4 EAD during H4 extension under process

Hello,

My husband recently got approved with i140 and we are to apply for H4 EAD, but the problem or question we have is we recently(Aug) applied for visa extension for both and is still under process and awaiting decision. Since I have seen the H4 EAD application that asks for the receipt number of H4 document, So can anyone please help me understand:

1. Should we apply for EAD now ?

2. Should we wait until the extension is approved which is expected to take almost a minimum of 6 months as its NOT filed under premium?

3. Can we apply for H4 EAD with the under process H4 extension receipt number?

4. If NO for question 3 then if I apply for H4 EAD with the currently approved H4 visa which is to expire in Dec 2016(thats why applied for extension) then again as soon as I get it I need to apply for extension of H4 EAD? 

Please help me understand what should i do, Can i apply for H4 EAD now with the H4 extension receipt number which is still under processing(awaiting decision). Please help me understand how to proceed.
