H1B after 6 years of quota

Hi,

I’m on H1-B visa and I will complete my 6 years of H1 quota in May 2013.

I have a question – if I move out of US now and if I apply for a new H1 next year, will it be considered a new H1 petition with another 6 years of validity OR will I be getting only for a year or so which was not utilized completely as part of the previous H1?

Please let me know.

If you go abroad now for a year, you will have the choice of getting a new H1 under the quota, or getting the remainder of your current H1 (not subject to the quota.)
