USCIS Service Request response for AOS

I and my wife have opened a Service Request with USCIS for I-485 as we passed the normal wait time for our Pending I-485 (PD: Oct'2004 - Converted from EB3 to EB2 in Oct'2010). I-485 & I-140 applied concurrently. Have approved EAD/AP, however still have my I-140 pending.

My wife got an email from USCIS with the following message:

"Based on your request we researched the status of this case. We are actively processing this case. However, we have to perform additional review on this case and this has caused a longer processing time. If you do not receive a decision or other notice of action from us within 6 months of this letter, please contact customer service at the number provided below."

Has anyone receive a similar message? If yes, how long did it take for your I-485 approval? I know every case is different, but just wanted to know.

Is that the I-140 the I-485 is based on? If so, why are you making service requests if you KNOW FOR SURE your/her I-485 cannot be approved until I-140 is approved? You are just wasting everyone's time.
