GC for brother under 18

Recommended Posts

I am now a citizen and would like to apply for a GC for my parents and brother who is under 18. As a citizen, my parents count as immediate an immediate and I understand the process should go quickly for them. For my brother, would he be able to get a GC at the same time as my parents since he is under 18? If not, would it be faster for my parents to get their GC then apply for my brother as a child of a Permanent Resident or would it be better for me to file for my brother now as a brother of a US Citizen?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Your brother would not be included with your parents' GCs. The immediate relative category does not extend to dependents of the immediate relative.

You can sponsor him as sibling, which takes 10-12 years.

Your parents, once they are PRs, could sponsor him in family category 2A, if he is under 21 then. The PD for F2A is currently 2 1/2 years back, but it fluctuates a lot, so 5 years could happen.

F2B, for unmarried children of PRs over 21, is 8 years backlogged.
