H1B stamping options

Hi

My 6th year H1B expiring May 2012. I have approved I140. I work in Fortune 500 Medical industry related company in non IT field. My company is willing to apply for extension towards Nov -Dec 2011 time frame.

I am planning to go to India in Dec and I need to go stamping as visa in my passport has expired (but I have valid I797 till May 2012) My question:

- Any issues if I go for stamping showing I 797 which is only valid for approx. 5 months?

- If I wait to receive approval for my H1B extension which would be valid for 3 yrs after May 2012; how soon can I got stamping on basis of that new I797?

- Did anyone experience issue getting stamping done showing I797 for stay after 6th year of H1B?

I would be going to Mumbai consulate.

I am in a similar situation. What did you decide ?

I have not decided anything yet..but I got confirmation from Mumbai Consulate that I can appear for interview only before 90 days of my new I797 start date but I can re-enter only 10 days before new 797 start date.

I would like to know experiences from other folks regarding this matter..
