H4 dropbox - authorized person

My spouse previous stamping was expired on 12/31/2018 so am aware that she is eligible for drop box. She is currently in India. The dropbox locations are very far from our native so if she provides an authorization letter to her friend, can that friend submit the documents on be half?. Or does my spouse needs to go in person to drop the documents?. I did google for this scenario but seen very old comments so not sure. Any advise, please.
