Old Petition Valid but Amended Expiring

I had a valid H1B visa with expiration date of Aug 21 2019. But when I filed for amendment, due to change of location and client, I received approved petition valid only until Mar 31, 2019.

After amended petition was approved, I re-entered US, but the i-94 still said valid until Aug 2019. This I have been told by some is very weird.

Unfortunately, I did not realize until now that amended petition is expiring in 8 days. And I have a planned travel to India in 4 days returning in late April. 

I understand that I would have to file extension asap, which does not look likely to be submitted before Mar 31.

Can someone please clarify if I can go ahead with my travel to India?
