H1B Holder & Adoption

Hello Firm Team

I am on H1B and have a quick question.

I am the GOD father for my cousin's daughter (Age:10), so they asked me being on H1, can I adopt their daughter to join her in u.s school & continue with college education ?

"A foreign-born adopted child will generally not be entitled to U.S. derivative nonimmigrant visa status. In practice, this means that U.S. nonimmigrant visa holders cannot adopt overseas and immediately bring the child back to the United States on a nonimmigrant visa of the same classification as that of the adoptive parent(s)."

Child separation policy has been put on hold, so US Govt. will not allow you to separate the child from her real parents. 😉
