Travel to Mexico for pleasure, F1 expired, valid I-20, still in school (PhD)

Hi everyone,

I would like to visit Mexico for a vacation with a length of stay of 3-5 days. I am an international student with valid I-20, I 94 but have an expired F1 visa.I checked with my designated school officer at the International student office about the travel and they mentioned that I was okay to travel because of the automatic visa revalidation that doesnt require an unexpired visa to re-enter the US. Is there anyone who used AVR recently, what was your experience? Any comments/suggestions will be very helpful!!
