Not mandatory, you can say you are applying Canadian visitor visa for vacation purpose and input tentative / approximate travel dates. Link to comment

Thanks I'm going to book H1 interview before I send Canadian visa application. Looks like one of the guys here got rejected for Canadian Visitor visa without H1 stamping interview date.
