H1 - H4 - H1/ H4 EAD conversion

Hello ,

I have approved I-140 and my current H1 expired on 27th Aug 2016 and H1 extension is under process. I still have 1yr left on my original 6yr H1B tenure. I have to go India for some personal stuff. My husband H1 is valid until Sep 2017 and his I-140 is under process.

1) Can I travel while my H1 extension is under process and come back on H4 visa, then change back to H1 with same or different employer? 

2) How long it will take to change from H4 to H1?

3) If my husband I-140 gets approved before I go to H4 stamping can I apply for H4 EAD at the same time and come back to US?

4) Do I need to be in the country to apply H4 EAD?
