doc rat
As per the directive from the Indian Passport office, all hand written Indian passports should have been converted to machine typed passports by Nov 24th 2015. I am a permanent resident with a hand written passport expiring 2019, travelling to India on Dec 14th. I have 2 options I guess, to get my passport renewed in India when I am there or wait till I get back to the US in jan 2016. Houston does not have a tatkal option and the processing time is 3-6 weeks. I am curious what experiences travelers with hand written passports had travelling to India and back to the US had post Nov 24th? Link to comment
JoeF
The US doesn't accept hand-written passports anymore. Link to comment
jairichi
The current passport is invalid & you will not be allowed to board the aircraft. You need to renew it before you travel. Link to comment
tusharvk
I understand your point. in similar boat. passport issued in US part handwritten and part typed. I think that it is green card they will care about at POE; but when you arrive in India or board airplane from US headed to India, will they let you? Link to comment
