L1 Visa Valid - Extension made after Petition Expiry. Do I need a new Visa?

My L1 Petition expired in Dec 2014.

But my I 94 was valid till May 2015.

 

My Visa is valid till Feb 2017 with a note that approved 797 or 129 is required.

 

Now, we did not file for an extension before Dec 2014 but instead after that. Hence the lawyers determined that we can't do extension but will do Consular notification. This 797, 129 also is approved. 

 

My lawyer said get a new visa for re entry. In fact, my visa is valid for two more years. I have not changed jobs it is just the nature of petition is not Extension but Consular notification. 

 

Do I need a new Visa when my current visa is valid for two more years.
