Transfer from Non Profit to Profit after I140 approval

Hi,

I worked for a non profit organization A for last 6 years. They filed my Green card application last year. My Perm and I140 is approved. I know if I switch employer then they have to again file for perm and i140 but my priority  date will remain same.  I wanted to know if I want to switch employer after 180 days of I140 approval 

1.  Can I switch from Non profit to profit organizations?

2.  If yes, do my new employer has to just file for my H1b extension or my application will go into cap exempt H1b lottery? 

3.  If my H1B application has to go thru lottery and it wasn't selected what are my options?

Any help will be appreciated.

If you have not been counted in the H1 quota, a petition from a non-cap-exempt employer can only be filed in the quota. It doesn't matter if you have an I-140 or not.

Thanks for the reply.  It means my application has to go thru quota/cap H1B.  

What will happen if my application missed the lottery?

Then you can't work for the for-profit company.
