H1 Extension(I797) approved and has old I94# instead of current I94

My H1 Extension was applied on Aug 2016 with I94# (XXXXXXX39). Also this I94 is tied to my EXPIRED passport.
I have traveled outside US after filing my H1 Extension in Sep, Nov, Dec 2016, and my latest I94# is (XXXXXXX85) and is tagged to my NEW passport.
My H1 Extension is approved in Jan 2017 and I797 document displays my OLD I94# (XXXXXXX39)  from Aug 2016 instead of current I94.

Please suggest:
1. Is it legal to stay in US with H1 extension approval / 797 document having old I94#(XXXXXXX39), instead of new or current I94# (XXXXXXX85)?
2. If not what is the process to correct this issue?

Appreciate your response.

You are fine. You are legal to stay.

Your new passport will have the old passport number mentioned in the last page which means it is the continuation.

Don't worry you are fine

Thank you Tjgarla.

Please suggest if my extension based on my old I94# is not an issue? Thank you.
