DivyaH4EAD
Hello, I'm a full time employee of a company on H1B visa. I got an opportunity to teach in a university once a week. I'm sure the university will have to pay me for my teaching services. Will this violate the H1B law that one cannot work for multiple employers with a single H1B? Please suggest if there are other options that I should consider. I'm guessing it will be ok to offer my services as a guest lecturer without pay. Thank you. Any assistance in this regard is much appreciated. Link to comment
rohang
it is true that you cant work on the side. You can only work for your h1b sponsorer. Regarding working for free/without pay. I am not 100% sure, but you cant work for volunteer/charity for a position for which someone gets payed for. Link to comment
tablelamp
You can file "CONCURRENT" H1B with the University as a part time. The concurrent position does not have to be for the same job title. The concurrent position must be paid at the proper wage levels. Link to comment
JoeF
You can NOT do this side job, not even unpaid. It would be unauthorized work. Volunteering is only possible where everybody else in a similar position volunteers, e.g., in a church. It is not possible for a lecturer position. Link to comment
DivyaH4EAD
Thank you JoeF and rohang. This is definitely a lost opportunity for me. This teaching opportunity would be in Fall 2017. By that time, I may be in one of the following two situations: 1. H1B with I-140 approved 2. H4 with EAD. Will any of this impact the earlier responses here? Can I work for two employers on H4 EAD? Appreciate your time and assistance. Link to comment
rohang
with H4 EAD, you are legally allow to work for 2 employers. Link to comment
JoeF
An EAD is work authorization. With that, you can work anywhere. Link to comment
