I 94 extension

Hello Friends,

 

I recently stamped my h1b which is valid till early 2017. however my passport was expiring in May 2016. so the officer validated my i 94 only till may 2016. I applied and got my new passport after coming to usa

my employer asked  me to travel outside of usa and come back to update/fix the i 94 date.

 

i am planning to switch job. Will I still be required to travel before May 2016?

since when I transfer my visa I would be getting new I 797 and possibly new I 94 date?

 

Or I shall i first do my travel  and then ask the new employer for the visa transfer. please advise
