I've been trying hard to find some information about the best place to get H1B visa stamped without going to India. I've read a lot of posts - many of them discourage going to Canada or Mexico while others advocate for it and reading all these posts have made this choice quite hard. I was wondering if I could make it a community exercise, let's call it crowd sourcing :),  and get some answers from so many people who visit this forum.

1. What is one place (excluding India) you would recommend to go to for H1B visa stamping and if you are in mood to write a little bit, would you care to explain why :)

2. What are the obvious advantages and pitfalls for your choice?

If enough people could answer this, I can compile the responses at the end of it and post it here. Im sure its gonna help a lot more people who are in my shoes.

My reasons for not going to India are fairly simple- it costs quite a bit (both in terms of money and days off) to go all the way to India just to get the visa stamped. I have to travel to South America/Europe for work and not getting my H1B stamped is not an option.

Thank you all!

Tell your employer that you cannot enter into US without visa and need visa appt during the trip.

IMHO, give a try at the local US consulate where you currently reside. A VO will be the best judge whether he/she can make a decision in your case or simply ask you to apply in your home country.

In my case i applied in a 3rd country twice and both times was asked to apply in home country. First time was my education credentials concern and 2nd was questions about my employer. In both cases i was able to secure a visa in my home country by providing further documentation in question.

   Good luck.
