kashyap.M Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 Advisers, My F1 visa is stamped for School A. I have I-20 from school B. Both schools are in 2 different states. I would like to pursue my study in School B. I will arrive in the US in 5 days. Port of entry is by the School A. Please advise if it's necessary to file a transfer application with the graduate school A. If not, can I go to school B directly and register for courses? Will I risk losing my status if I did not file transfer application with the School A? Do the SEVIS transfer rules require filing transfer application with school A before I can move to School B? If this move to school B should not materialize for any reason, I want to change the major in School A. Can I pursue these 2 inter-school and inter-department moves simultaneously? Thanks in advance!
JoeF Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 SEVIS is only done for school A. They would have to release SEVIS before you could transfer.
abhishek kashyap Posted August 25, 2015 Report Posted August 25, 2015 Advisers, My situation has turned time-sensitive and as such travel plans are staggering. Kindly help me understand this well enough. Are you suggesting that I should approach school A and request a SEVIS transfer before I can go to school B? Thanks in advance!
JoeF Posted August 25, 2015 Report Posted August 25, 2015 Yes. You can't just show up at school B. SEVIS needs to be updated, and that means school A would have to release it first.
prad0211 Posted August 25, 2015 Report Posted August 25, 2015 Yes. You will have to report to the International office of school A and then file a transfer for school B. Before that, learn the transfer policy in school A.
