Hello All,

             Am a US citizen and am trying to apply GC for my mom. She in on tourist visa as of now with insurance being taken from India. And her 6-month stay is getting over by end of next month. Am planning to apply GC before that so that she can stay with us until the GC results are know. Hopefully, if she gets her GC, next thing to look is for the insurance which is a hassle here. She can be in Indian Insurance for another 6 months but then in the long run, what is the best thing to do? Also, what is the criteria/eligibility to qualify for medicaid/Obamacare? Any help would be really appreciated.

She wouldn't qualify for Medicaid.

You have to file an affidavit of support. Do you have that kind of money that may be necessary?

Once she becomes a GC holder then lookup HEALTHCARE.GOV and enroll her in a suitable plan .Medicaid is not applicable. If above 65 she will not be eligible for Medicare for 5 years.
