H4 to F1 - Devry University

Hi - 

 

I am currently in USA on H4 visa. I am looking into enrolling in Devry University. I have following questions and I appreciate all the help on this

 

1. Can I do change of status from H4 to F1 visa?

2. Am I eligible for OPT on F1 visa considering Devry is for profit?

3. In future, when I decide to file for my H1B under advanced degree quota, would there be any issues as the degree is from Devry university?

1. Yes.

2. Yes, you can get OPT.

3. You do not qualify under advance degree quota as a master's degree has to be from an accredited,  public or non-profit institution.

DeVry is a for-profit university, so a Masters from them can NOT be used for the H1 Advanced Degree quota.

For the H1 Advanced Degree quota, the degree has to be from an accredited, public or non-profit private university.

It is always better to enroll in a public university.

You can get F1 and OPT but not H1 with that degree.
