ssen Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 Hey Guys, I got naturalized today! Yipee! :) I have a few questions however before I could apply for my US passport: 1. Renounce Indian passport first? or Apply or a US passport? Does it matter? 2. What is the process of renouncing your Indian passport? Any input or recommendations is greatly appreciated! Thanks,
JoeF Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 My understanding is that with the naturalization, you have lost Indian citizenship. You have to return the passport to the Indian authorities. That has no effect at all on getting a US passport.
pontevecchio Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 Look at the Embassy site for paperwork and any fee involved. They will return your passport with a notation stating Cancelled Indian Citizenship due to acquiring foreign citizenship. This helps in case PIO etc. Interests you.
