rahulsajan903 Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 hi, i recently applied for STEM extension ,but it was denied ,the reason they gave was that my degree is not eligible for STEM , I took MBA-IT , but i am sure my major has it , it is one of the few MBA major that has STEM , plus i enquired with all of my friends who also took MBA IT they all have it approved ,the problem is that they have closed my SEVIS as well , i have OPT till this month end but they have closed my SEVIS for no reason , now i can reapply or reopen the case i dont know if i can even change my status back to student without going back please help on what my next course of action should P.S i am sure the major has STEM , i even send them a letter from the university statinf that this major has STEM along with the MAJOR code thank you
jairichi Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 The M in STEM stands for Maths. MBA does not come under STEM. If your friends got STEM extension then complain to USCIS.
livliv Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 Check the CIP code for your major in your I-20. (page 2 or 3). If that appears in the STEM list, then you can appeal based on that. Stem list - http://www.ice.gov/sites/default/files/documents/Document/2014/stem-list.pdf
shekar11# Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 You need to check the primary major code in page number 3 of your STEM I -20. If that code is present in the above list sent by livliv, then you can appeal for your case.
