starwriter
My company has asked me to sign a tenure agreement for one or possibly two years, now that they have started the labor certification process. Considering that they already made me wait one year before starting the process, I think that a two-year agreement is a little excessive. I have exhausted my 6 years of H1B. My employment with my current company is through H1B extension based on an approved I-140 from my previous company. Do you think I should try to negotiate with them a little bit on this? Or is signing such contracts normal practice? My previous company never asked me to sign any contract. I am in the civil engineering industry, if that helps. Thank you. Link to comment
JoeF
The company can do that. For somebody on H1, a company can't ask for a penalty if the person leaves the company early. But that doesn't apply for somebody with a GC. If you don't want to sign it, your option would be to find another employer. Link to comment
livliv
You can try to negotiate it down a little bit. 2 years is not normal, 1 year is normal these days. There is no harm in trying. Link to comment
