Got the visa but didn't join till 1 Year

Hi,

 

One of my friend got the Student visa and came to US in Dec 2013 before the college starts. After a week he got sick and went back to India. He didn't join the college. Now he wants to study MS again in a different university. He got the I20 for different university. Can he come with the old visa or he needs to go for Visa again?
