My experience :

Visa Appointment at Consulate : 8:15 4th May 2015

Status Changed to Issues : 5th May (morning)

Received email from loomis and consulate : 5th May (evening around 7:30), they called on 6th around 1PM that I can pick it up.

Will be picking up : I am about to go and pick it up around 4PM on 6th May and then catch my flight at 7:20.

Questions Asked by VO :

  1. Have you had any US visa before ? - Yes
  2. Did you do your master's in US? - Yes
  3. What was your field of study? - Computer Engineering
  4. Is your employer paying on time and everything is alright? Yes
  5. Your Visa has been approved. - Thank you.

Documents I took with me :

  1. DS-160 confirmation
  2. 2 passport photos (they only asked for one)
  3. Visa Appointment Confirmation Letter
  4. I-797 along with full h1b petition documents (I-129 etc. whatever the lawyer sent us)
  5. Approved Petition from previous employed since I transferred, this is not required though.
  6. Recent six pay stubs and last two years W-2

Although they did not ask for any other document than first four documents I mentioned, that does not mean you only need those. Refer to required document list for H1 B stamping.

There's one thing that you should make sure, you should allocated half an hour time to put your stuff in the locker which is about 4 blocks away. They do not allow keys, electronics or anything else you can imagine, it's basically you, your clothes papers and wallet. I even put my wallet in locker, took only some cash and credit card with me since I did not want to take risk of missing an appointment.

Below is the locker location and they charge 5 dollars. Just go there first put all your belongings there and then go to the consulate.

Also, the train within downtown is free so if you are staying in downtown, your trip to consulate can be free, I found this out after the appointment, I took the cab.

Locker Location:

HI-Calgary City Centre
520 7 Avenue Southeast
Calgary, AB T2G 0J6
Canada

I would rate this experience as a super smooth. The only part which I did not like is the locker being four blocks away but I think if I had the information before head, I would have done what I am suggesting above. Feel free to ask any other questions except accommodation since I have a friend who hosted me.

@srinum88 - Actually, I had a problem booking a slot as well, I thought it would be pretty easy to book one but I think I got lucky. I got one for 5th May first and I kept checking and finally got 4th May. It's easy to reschedule and they let you do it multiple times (I hope, I only did once).

But I agree with you for a long time I did not see any May appointments although I do not have any information on why is it the case.
