Converting from h1b to h4 - traveling to India for h4 stamping

Hello All,

 

I'm currently on H1B visa and planning to convert to h4 visa.

Since, the wait time for I-539 COS is longer, I'm planning to travel to India to apply for h4 at US consulate.

 

My spouse has a valid H1 approved and visa stamped valid till sept 2017.

 

I'm planning to give 2 weeks notice to my current employer and travel to India.

Below are my question

 

1) Should I leave the country exactly on the last day of my notice period ?

2) Will the above make sure that I don't overstay or accumulate illegal stay?

3) For applying for h4 visa, I'm planning the below steps

 

Complete DS-160, book appointment for visa and biometrics

Carry supporting docs for spouse's h1b visa, my h1b docs and h4 supporting docs

 

Am I missing anything else ?
