vs449
Hi, I am currently on an F-1 visa pursuing a Master's degree. I am a resident alien for tax purposes, because I utilized the 5 year F-1 non-resident allowance during my undergraduate degree (tax years 2006 - 2010). I will be starting a full time job this summer on my F-1 OPT. I was paid a signing bonus, from which Medicare and Social Security taxes were deducted. Can I claim these taxes back from my firm/the IRS since I will be working on F-1 OPT, or do I owe these taxes because I am a resident for tax purposes? Thanks! Link to comment
JoeF
As a resident for tax purposes, the FICA taxes are deducted, and you can't get them back. Link to comment
