Can some please confirm whether this rule is exempted for travelers from India.

Q.2 How long does my passport have to be valid in order to apply for a U. S. visa?
You must possess a passport valid for travel to the United States with a validity date at least six months beyond your intended period of stay in the United States (unless country-specific agreements provide exemptions "http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/104770.pdf").

My Overseas officer statement :

your passport, which must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the expiration date listed on the I-797 approval notice.

My Concern:

I'm planning to go for visa stamping May 2015 , my passport is  three days short to meet the criteria of “six  months beyond the expiration date listed on the I-797 approval notice”.

My I -797  Date is till 03/13/2016 & Passport is valid till 09/10/2016, India passport office won’t accept renewals before 1 year of expiration of passport,  so even If I want to renew I need to wait till 09/10/2015.
